The school administration has developed a comprehensive plan to enhance safety measures. The entire campus is efficiently monitored under 24-hour video surveillance. Disaster management is another area of concern as students are well-prepared to mitigate any such emergency or event.
Built in 1937, this Nabha Secretariat Building was given to the Punjab Public School in 1960 by Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, Chief Minister, Punjab who played a vital role in setting it up. To honour his memory this building was named Kairon Block on March 19, 1972. It forms the academic and administrative block of the Senior Wing. It is used as the teaching block for Classes VIII to XII. It also includes School Shop and Book Shop. One is welcomed in the Kairon block with the models of INS Virrat R22 and Gabrillee Yacht, both presented by Taranveer Singh Benipal (J0628 – ISC 2011). Another eye-catchy feature is INS-Chakra-Nuclear Propelled Submarine presented by Vice Admiral Satish Soni, PVSM, AVSM, NM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam (Alumunus, 1971 R-121) and Model of INS Talwar presented by Vice Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command. The Marine Touch to Campus is also evident from the two huge aquariums dedicated by PPS to Old Nabhaites Association during ONA Golden Jubilee – April, 2015.
The school’s famed Pavate Hall was inaugurated by Giani Zail Singh, Chief Minister, Punjab. It is located in the Senior Wing campus. It hosts numerous events and is the hub of all important co-curricular activities. A colossal caricature of eagle symbolizing the school motto ‘Onward and Upward’ welcomes at the entrance. The latest light and sound effects with it 17 ft. 32ft. screen add to the multidimensional learning of students.
The Jaisukh Lal Hathi Library is housed in the impressive Darbar Hall of the ertswhile Maharaja of Nabha’s Secretariat. The beautiful teak-panelled hall has a rich collection of books to help students live in a world of information. To inculcate life-long reading habits , the library also subscribes to various periodicals and encourages students to make most of the regularly held book-fairs. The latest addition is the two computer capsules with 10 PC’s in each where students are free to do their independent research and prepare for the competitions.
For the ailing students and ensuring that students take medicines timely, the school has two separate Medical Infirmaries, with provision of 16 beds in Senior and 2 beds in Junior. Health check-ups, administration of vaccines are conducted on a regular basis. As a part of promoting hygiene, regular lectures are organised by the young doctors enlightening the students on healthy living.
The above quoted lines clearly highlight the significance of learning in the laboratories. It not only teaches the relevance and use of science in our daily life but also motivates the students to understand the world of discoveries and inventions. The Science Block of the school was inaugurated by Sardar Swaran Singh, Minister of Defence on 8th March, 1975. The block houses well equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology Labs where students engage in active learning while performing experiments.
Girls Hostel Out of several projects undertaken by school under the dynamic and valuable leadership of the present headmaster, a remarkable landmark came up in the history of PPS i.e. the Ultra Modern Girls Hostel. Built over a sprawling area of 55000 square ft, it was completed in the stipulated time of one year and was inaugurated by the executive committee of school Board of Governers on July 27, 2013. At present it caters to 250 girls and is equipped with all the possible facilities such as solar water system, PA system, smoke-detectors, fire alarms, magnetic locks, visitors room, recreational room, MI, common room, two spacious prep halls, control room, air cooling system all ensuring a guarded stay for the girl students. A distinctive feature of the hostel is amphitheatre. To make the stay more homely and comfortable, clothing store, a beauty salon, changing rooms attached to their dorms have also been taken care of. A pantry in the girls boarding promotes the culinary skills among girls. Senior Houses To meet the increasing requirement, four houses were constructed in Sham Bagh which had government nursery. As Mr Dharma Vira’s contribution was tremendous in this project, it was decided to name it as Dharma Vira Park. The lush green lawns add to the scenic beauty ensuring proper ventilation. Four computers have been installed in each house. The overall incharge is the Coordinator Boarding Houses. With an average strength of 57 students, each house is run by a Housemaster, Assistant Housemaster, and a set of tutors. Middle Houses The Old Secretariat donated by the Punjab Government to the school is used as a hostel for boys of the Middle classes of VIII and IX. The students are divided into four houses with each house headed by a Housemaster and assissted by an Assisstant House Master. Junior Houses The Guest House donated by the Punjab Government to the school is used as junior school. An impressive building with Marble floors and Burma teak, this building houses junior boys of classes IV to VII. Students are divided into four houses for administrative purposes. Each house is looked after by HouseMaster and Assisstant Housemaster. There are approximately 30 acres of lawns and gardens around this building.
The school has more than 50 acres of lush green play fields where all the students can play simultaneously. Various IPSC tournaments are conducted here. The new Cricket turf came up in the year 2011 which increased the friendly fixtures played almost every week promoting healthy relationship among various visiting teams.
With nearly 30 acres of lawns and gardens, one is welcomed with the Rock Garden comprising of sculptures made out of waste material and cement. The Junior school campus includes the Junior wing academic block, Headmaster’s Residence, Swimming Pool, Staff Lawns, Junior Mess, Riding Area, Girls’ Hostel.
The historical section is located on the gallery atop school library in the senior school. Many rare photographs since the inception of school are on display, including the original Padma Shri citation of Sh JK Kate, the founding headmaster. The alumni often visit the historical section to relive the golden memories of their school days.
