Our History

The Sanatana Dharma Vidyasala was founded on 18th January 1905 by a team of socially committed citizens of Alappuzha led by Rao Bahadur K.A. Krishna Iyengar, Dr. S. Venkitarama Naidu and others on the inspiration and motivation of the eminent Theosophist Dr. Annie Besant . In the year 1946, by the efforts of Sri. K Parthasarathy Iyengar and Sri. V.Sundara Raja Naidu, sons of the founding fathers,a college under the name Sanatana Dharma College was started in the vidyasala compound., which was inaugurated by Dr. C P Ramaswamy Iyer, the Diwan of erstwhile State of Travancore.

In 1950 the college was shifted to kalarkode, where it is functioning since then. In 1967 , Santana Dharma Vidyasala was bifurcated into S.D.V Girl’s High School and S.D.V Boy’s High School. The long cherished wish of the public in and around Alappuzha town was fulfilled in the year 1972 when Sanatana Dharma Vidyasala started an English Medium School, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New delhi by the untiring efforts of late Sri. K. Parthasarthy Iyengar. In 1985, S.D.V English Medium Higher Secondary School started offering +1 and +2 courses.The courses offered are Sanatana Dharma Vidyasala is offering education facilities from Play School to research level.
