Botany / Zoology

In this area, the child learns about plants, animals and insects.

It’s an introduction to the living beings that live in the same world as them. We learn mostly through experimentation, so the child can experience ideas, rather than process information that is passed on verbally.

Cultural

In this area children learn about  the world around them.

It starts with the child getting a deeper sense of the in which live. It then progresses to giving them insights and information about countries around the world. We talk about differences in life and cultures.

They finally move into learning about land, air and water and then learn about continents.

Language

  • We start by learning words and then building vocabulary by working with picture & object matching.
  • We do segmenting which helps our early readers. This helps the child to develop necessary skills for reading and writing. Later we move on to sand paper letters.
  • We use Cursive because it is a great way to teach children sounds . It is what their hand naturally wants to do and because Curved Lines are easier to make than straight lines at their age.  We then introduce the moveable alphabet which leads to early reading.

Sensorial

With sensorial material children get an experience of classifying, sorting, pairing, grading material based on their sense of touch, sight, smell, taste, hearing, etc. These sensorial activities not only work at developing the child for future activities, they also help the child appreciate the world around them at a deeper level.

Mathematics

In this area the Child learns about numbers, quantities and how to put them together.

  • They learn about Operation in a very concrete way through Addition, Multiplication, Subtraction and Division.
  •  They understand the decimal system and also learn how to skip count. The learning starts in a concrete way and later moves on to the abstract form.

Practical life

Practical life is where the child learns everyday skills that will help them for the rest of their life.

  • They build the ability to concentrate
  •  They build fine motor skills for working
  • They prepare their eyes for reading by going from left to right and top to bottom

Grace and Courtesy is a part of Practical Life, where children receive explicit instructions on how to interpret and react to different social situations:

They learn to….

  ….Say “Please” and “Thank You”.

  ….Greet one another.

….Politely interrupt a person engaged in activity.

  ….Introduce friends

  ….Wait for their turn.

FAQ's

What is the Montessori method?

The Montessori method is named after Dr. Maria Montessori–the first female Italian physician. In 1907, Dr. Montessori developed a teaching method focused on each child’s individual potential and the uniqueness of his or her learning experience. Dr. Montessori believed that children learn best when provided with age-appropriate opportunities for exploration, observation, and modeling in a caring, nurturing environment.

The open house is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn about our program and understand how we are different from other schools. During your visit, you will gain an understanding of how our Montessori Program can help your child excel in areas like Mathematics, Science, Geography, Language and beyond. You can tour our classrooms, have a chance to see and even try some of the amazing materials we use in all areas of the class.

Unlike traditional school settings, the child is at the center of the Montessori experience. The program offers a community environment, self-directed learning opportunities, the ability for a child to progress at his or her individual pace, mixed-age classrooms that promote modeling, camaraderie, and leadership opportunities to develop confidence through observation and hands-on exploration.
