Skill Based Curriculum

A child becomes a lifelong learner by acquiring skills, not just by listening to teachers. That's why the curriculum at Mindseed focuses on developing crucial Foundation Skills for the ages of 2-6 years instead of spending time lecturing children on different 'themes'.

Why Skill Based Curriculum?
  • An average toddler forms around 700 neural connections every second between the ages of one to three. That means she is learning 700 new things every second. Every second!
  • Based on the latest scientific research, children learn best when they are practicing and exploring materials rather than just sitting and listening to a teacher. So rote learning and content memorisation will not help kids in future.
  • The purpose of learning in the foundation years is to develop mastery in crucial skills such as reading, logic, concentration, and perseverance.

Mindseed focuses on 4 skill areas that encompass the child's complete development. In each of these skills, a learning path (called the Learning Arc) is designed for each child to help them to learn at their own pace. Each Learning Arc has more than 100 activities to help kids engage in hands-on learning.

  • Physical Skills:
    • Fine motor skills: This involve use of small muscles such as hand, fingers, and thumb. Useful for tasks like writing, drawing and buttoning.
    • Gross motor skills: It involves the use of large muscles such as arms, legs, and other large body parts. Useful for tasks like running, jumping, kicking, throwing, etc.
  • Math Skills: Math skills help a child to develop mastery in logic, shapes sorting, patterning, problem-solving and numeracy.
  • Linguistic Skills: Helps a child to learn English as a language rather than a subject. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the key constituents to master a language.
  • Socio-emotional Skills: These skills help kids to get prepared for K-12 schools and life beyond. Independence, Sharing, Empathy, Compassion, Perseverance and Confidence are some of the key traits that kids learn.

Child Centric Classroom

Instead of organizing the classrooms according to grades or age, Montessori school is organized into different skill stations, as per the skill-based curriculum, to provide an immersive learning environment for each and every child. This immersive learning environment, where everything a child sees, hears or plays with, is geared towards developing a particular set of skills. There is material available for each and every child, irrespective of their age and level, to engage with. Activities designed are neither too easy nor too hard, but just right, to move them to the next level of skill development.

Mindseed's Montessori school is organized into the following four skill stations.
  • Explore Station: Explore station is the home classroom for playgroup. Kids work on their physical skills by developing fine motor skills (small muscles in the fingers and hand-eye coordination).
  • Language Station: Language station is the home classroom for Nursery but it is equipped to help kids from playgroup to KG in developing English language listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • Number Station: Number station is the home classroom for kindergarten but it facilitates kids from playgroup and nursery as well in mastering pre-math, problem-solving and cognitive skills such as logic, shapes sorting and patterning.
  • Play Station: Active play is an integral part of Mindseed curriculum. At play station, kids work on their gross motor skills (large muscles such as arms, legs, and other large body parts) by participating in tasks such as running, jumping, kicking, throwing and body balancing.
  • Socio-Emotional skill development happens in all skill stations.

Personalised Learning

No two kids are the same, then why should they learn the same thing, at the same pace. In a traditional class, every child is forced to learn the same thing at the same pace. Avi might be struggling to connect alphabets to their sounds while Sid would already be reading simple sentences. Then how does it make sense to force both of them to read the same book? This factory model education leaves almost two third of the class either overwhelmed or bored as not every student is learning at the same pace. In the name of standardisation and uniformity, preschools kill the natural genius of every child.

At Mindseed, however, we customise learning for each and every child based on their skills, strengths, and needs, so that every child can learn at their own pace. Kids move ahead once they learn rather than at the pace of the teacher. In a personalised class, children are sitting together in different groups, engaged in activities designed according to their individual skill level.

At Mindseed, we help kids to remain HAPPY and ENGAGED at all times through activities that are personalised for their level, thus creating a love for learning.
