On the recommendation of the 2nd Central Pay Commission in 1962 to provide common education with common syllabus and curriculum to the children of transferable Central government employees including defence personnel, the Ministry of Education, Government of India took over 25 regimental school run by defence establishment and converted into Central schools in 1963. Later on these Central School were rechristened as Kendriya Vidyalayas and as on today 1087 Kendriya Vidyalayas through the breadth and length of our country meet the needs of a common education to the children of transferable Central Government Employees defence and project personnel. This phenomenal growth of KV is due to its popularity and rapid stride in all key areas of present day education reforms and has come to be recognized as pivotal institutions striving to rise the quality of education at school level. KV's have improved their infra-structure facilities and education in all its sphere that there is no educational organization in competition today.
