Mathematics Laboratory

The mathematics laboratory is a place where anybody can experiment and explore patterns and ideas. It is a place where one can find a collection of games, puzzles, and other teaching and learning material. The materials are meant to be used both by the students on their own and with their teacher to explore the world of mathematics, to discover, to learn and to develop an interest in mathematics. The activities create interest among students or in anybody who wants to explore, and test some of their ideas, beliefs about mathematics. The maths lab provides an opportunity for the students to discover mathematics through doing. Many of the activities present a problem or a challenge, with the possibility of generating further challenges and problems. The activities help students to visualize, manipulate and reason. They provide opportunity to make conjectures and test them, and to generalize observed patterns. They create a context for students to attempt to prove their conjectures. Mathematics laboratory is a place to enjoy mathematics through informal exploration. It is a place where anyone can generate problems and struggle to get an answer. It is a space to explore and design new mathematical activities. So, the maths lab should not be used to assess students’ knowledge of mathematics. Often mathematics lab takes students’ knowledge beyond the curriculum. Mathematics laboratory is a self-explanatory lab with activities, in which students could come anytime (free to them) and engage in the work, continue working on the problems/tasks, and use teachers as and when they are stuck. In this way, the role of the teacher is not to teach how to progress in the activity but to facilitate inquiry with the mathematics in it. The facilitation could be done either by probing questions, giving an extra resource or asking to follow or discuss with peers.

LABORATORIES

SCIENCE LABORATORIES The School is equipped with three labs for the Science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Biology MATHS LABORATORY With the view to hone the mathematical skills of the students and improve their proficiency in mathematics, they are given regular practice in the math lab. PHYSICS LABORATORY The role of the laboratory is central in high school physics courses since students must construct their own understanding of physics ideas. This knowledge cannot simply be transmitted by the teacher, but must be developed by students in interactions with nature and the teacher. Meaningful learning will occur where laboratory activities are a well-integrated part of a learning sequence. The lab has three work stations, and at each station there could be a number of 6-8 students working, depending upon the nature of the experiment. CHEMISTRY LABORATORY Chemistry is sometimes called "the central science" because it bridges other natural sciences like physics, and biology with each other. The Chemistry lab is a required component of most chemistry courses. Learning about lab procedures and performing experiments helps students to learn techniques and reinforces textbook concepts. This lab has three stations, and at each station there could be a number of 6-8 students working, depending upon the nature of the experiment. BIOLOGY LABORATORY The daily routine of a biology student involves the use of basic equipment in their biology experiments - such as microscopes, test tubes, beakers- as well as high-tech scientific equipment and computers. This equipment is the bare-bone basics that you'd find in any laboratory. This equipment is necessary for the basic studies of biology: visualizing cells and organelles, as well as preparing samples of cells or fluids for testing or visualization, dissecting specimens. This lab has three stations, and at each station there could be a number of 6-8 students working, depending upon the nature of the experiment.

Computer Lab

Computer Science is taught as a compulsory subject that spans over the primary, middle & secondary level. Computer Science\Applications electives are offered to seniors of the secondary level. Students come to the computer lab once per week for 35 minutes. The lab consists of 46 Dell computers, one teacher PC to LCD station for demonstrating the lesson prior to students beginning a project. During their weekly lab visits, the students will increase their computer literacy skills. Each grade level has an appropriate set of goals and objectives for each school year. Appropriate use of the internet for research and knowledge is provided. The students have opportunities to gain experience in typing and varied software programs, & will learn basic computer parts, mouse skills, light word processing, graphics lessons using Paint software by running educational programs which will enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Smart Class

Smart Class is a comprehensive solution designed to assist teachers in meeting with their day-to-day classroom challenges and enhancing students’ academic performance with simple, practical and meaningful use of technology. Smart Class provides teachers with instant access to multimedia content and instruction materials mapped exactly to the specific curriculum guidelines for use in class. It also enables teachers to instantly assess and evaluate the learning achieved by their students in class with innovative use of technology. Smart Class helps teachers to ensure that every child in the class is learning, given the wide diversity of learning styles in the classroom. It is also highly efficient in maintaining students’ interest and engagement in learning inside the classroom. Smart Class simplifies the problems of teaching, abstract curriculum concepts that are difficult for students to visualize or relate to, through the provision of three-dimensional, interactive multimedia modules
