Fulfilling Every Child's Potential

At Greenberry World School, we ensure a learning environment that enables every child to excel in academics, find and follow their passion, and fulfill their potential to become the best they can be. Accordingly, our curriculum focusses on holistic learning that achieves a balance among the cerebral, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of a child.

Cerebral development: critical thinking, in-depth understanding, inquiry, creativity, recollection, and application
Social development: positive personal relationships, effective communication, trust and belief in the goodness of others, desire to help, and a sense of identity
Emotional development: self-belief and confidence, self-control, self-motivation, creative interests, and passion for life-long learning
Physical development: pursuit of sport, healthy practices (diet and exercise), personal care and hygiene
Spiritual development: feeling at one with nature, the universe, and the self.

Pre-primary (Age group: 3-5 years)

For this age group, the focus is on nurturing the fundamental communication abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. At the same time, we develop their understanding of the nature and world around them through engaged exploration and enquiry. At Greenberry World School, the world is the learning space. So, children observe trees, flowers, and the sun; play with natural ‘objects’ (sand, water, etc.); go out to explore the local hospital, fire station, park, factory, police station, and other institutions; listen to stories from members of the community; and interact with artisans and craftsmen visiting the school. The objective is to provide opportunities to link their known and familiar world with new discoveries, so that they eventually become lifelong learners. Our curriculum is not so much about ‘teaching a language’, but giving children opportunities to read, write, and speak - to help them communicate their thoughts and ideas both orally and in written form. Side-by-side, they also learn to use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time, and money; to compare quantities and objects; and to solve problems. As their verbal language skills are still developing at this stage, art and crafts are ways by which children learn to express and articulate their thoughts. They sing, make music, dance; and experiment with a variety of materials, tools, techniques, colour, design, texture, form, and function.

Primary (age group: 6-10 years)

At this stage, children begin to discover their sense of identity; and start to develop self-awareness, as well as awareness of the continuously evolving world they inhabit. Thus, our major aim for students of Primary years is to help them build competences that prepare them for the world. In our pursuit of academic excellence, we develop children as independent learners, who construct their knowledge by drawing upon their own experiences. This helps them develop critical-thinking and analytical skills. It also allows them to reflect and understand their own learning process; and make wise choices on how to move forward. Accordingly, rather than emphasising on factual knowledge, we encourage students to create conceptual knowledge - from their own experience, from those of people at home and in the community, libraries, and from sites outside the school. The result: a deeper, meaningful learning. We believe that knowledge is not to be fragmented into disciplines and subjects. Accordingly, our teaching-learning approach takes into account that any concept can be best understood by appreciating how it is linked with others. For instance, the concept ‘The food we eat’ cannot be taught separately in Science as a nutritional analysis and in Social Science as the types of food eaten by various communities. Our teachers guide students in this journey of integrated knowledge. Learning through leadership is an important part of our curriculum. Every student is exposed to various leadership opportunities (for example, as a group leader in a collaborative project); gets the opportunity to follow (to develop different types of team skills, responsibility, and resourcefulness), and hones the skills to take autonomous and thoughtful decisions.
