JUNIOR SCHOOL

Kindergarten to Class V make up the Junior School. The main emphasis is on the all round development of the child. The academic, social and behavioural aspect takes center stage. Children are exposed to various activities which allow them to discover new ideas and Interests.

The "Play-Way" method of instruction with a flexible curriculum, free from the pressures of examinations, allows the children to explore and discover things on their own through various hands-on activities. This develops the child’s observation skills, teamwork and creativity. The spirit of sharing and fair play is also encouraged.

Children are introduced to Computer Studies and a choice of Tamil or Hindi from Class I.

SENIOR SCHOOL

Classes VI - XII make up the Senior School. Emphasis shifts to in-depth preparation of student to meet the requirements of prescribed syllabi. While developing the students' intellectual faculties, there is a conscious effort towards creating a wider awareness of the world and giving space for the development of the aesthetic, moral and emotional dimensions. Our hope is that students passing out from the Brindavan Schools would grow into self-aware, sensitive and responsible human beings who remain life-long learners.

SPORT

Sports in Brindavan is integral to the agenda for student development. The Coonoor school was one of the earliest in the state to offer its students Equestrian sport. Its high standards of coaching in all sports and its comprehensive sports infrastructure have been borne out by the trophies won and the sportspersons of national repute it has produced. Brindavan’s students have been selected for State and National teams for field hockey, cricket, volleyball and football. Brindavan aims to provide a high standard of coaching and competition for the best sportsmen while enabling other students to play something they enjoy.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Brindavan organises extra-curricular activities for all students. While students can choose from some activities (Ex. Karate / Yoga, Gardening / Sewing / Cooking), other activities are compulsory (Ex. Personality Development). Participation in these activities helps students broaden their horizons.

Art

Brindavan Schools have extraordinary arts programs training students in Indian and Western dance and music; painting, crafts.

Brindavan Schools have extensive Art Departments. Children are taught the use of various media like pencils, colour pencils, charcoal, pen and ink, dry and oil pastels for drawing. They also learn how to paint using water colours, acrylic, oil and poster paints. Students paint on various surfaces like glass, silk and wood, besides paper.

The schools have junior and senior choirs that perform during special events. Western musical instruments - keyboard, trumpet, guitar and drums - are taught by specialists. Indian classical dance is also very popular amongst our students.

SOCIAL WORK

Students over the age of 10 participate in Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW). SUPW aims to equip students with varied skills which include carpentry, crafts, first-aid, gardening, cooking and practical activities like changing a tyre, fixing a bulb, sewing a button or cooking a tasty dish. All this enables them to be capable and self-sufficient. SUPW classes are led by professionals and are meant to spark and develop students’ lateral thinking abilities.

SUPW also encompasses social service to the local communities. The students visit orphanages and old age homes and spend quality time with their residents. The Kodaikanal and Coonoor students maintain the school organic vegetable gardens and play a significant role in keeping their pristine towns clean – raising awareness around plastic usage and recycling. Such exposure helps build the character of the children and moulds them into socially conscious citizens from an early age.
