Curriculum

The success of our school lies in careful planning og each lesson in the school year and in the evaluation of student performance. The curriculum gives a balanced importance to academics, computers, physical education and performing and visual arts and also integrates them with each other in a planned manner. Thus the students learn a subject through different techniques: geographical landforms through art on the computer and clay models cycles of the moon through a dramatic enactment.

The curriculum emphasises the teaching of a subject that is not merely the course work for each for each subject as is laid down by the C.B.S.E. so the students learn much beyond what is required for the board examination. Classes 6 to 8 follow a syllabus that has been set by the teachers. From class 9 onwards the students gets into gear for the C.B.S.E. and a system of monthly tests, an additional examination and classes on handling of examinations become an additional part of the curriculum.

The non-academic subjects in our school are also taught according to a pre-set syllabus. The students individual interests are further developed in hobby programmes, which offer choices as divergent as carpentry and magic. The daily private study hour helps the children develop self-study skills, very little homework is given in our school.

Art & Craft

Arts and crafts teach children to learn in different ways and approach problems and challenges creatively. The process of creating art helps students get in touch with a different side of themselves that they aren’t able to access in other subjects like math and science.

Different researches made, across the globe, have proved that Art & Craft learning, benefits the students in two major ways :

• Improving Brain Functions – Arts and Crafts helps the children use their brains more efficiently. Engaging in arts and crafts stimulates the right hemisphere of the brain, and other subjects like math and science stimulate the left hemisphere. When both hemispheres of the brain work together, the brain works more efficiently. This suggests that by stimulating both sides of the brain, the child will learn better and faster.

• Creativity and Imagination – Arts and crafts help children develop their creativity and imagination. These are important tools for children because they teach students to approach things with an open mind. Art gives a child the opportunity to transform abstract ideas into something concrete and visual.

SIS specially designed “Art Studios” in both the Primary & the Senior Wing are equipped with the latest products and the features to unleash each child’s inherent talent.

Music

Music has the charm to tame a savage beast, soften a rock and bend a knotted oak. Keeping this in view, teaching of dance and music is an important part of the curriculum. The school has separate rooms for dance and music where art of discipline and co-ordination of body parts are developed. The school trains students in different musical instruments, classical and folk dances.

Sports

Physical fitness is one of the most important elements of leading a healthy life. Physical education promotes the importance of inclusion of a regular fitness activity in the routine. This helps the students to maintain their fitness, develop their muscular strength, increase their stamina and thus stretch their physical abilities to an optimum level.

Sports help in inculcating discipline, self confidence, team spirit, sense of belonging, pride, achievement and self esteem. Our sports trainees are devoted and make a triumph over training the students.

The school has a spacious ground which is utilized for volleyball, football, Kho-Kho, handball, cricket, athletics & various other outdoor activities. The school has been participating in CBSE sports clusters and has also reached the national level and bring laurels to the institution.

Yoga
